A couple of months ago a wormwood plant, which I have in a pot in my balconry, got infested by mealy bugs. I cut the infested and damaged branches and leaves and sprayed the plant with an infusion made of cayenne, garlic, onion, etc. The problem subsided and the plant took time to recover and start growing again. I also planted more wormwood seeds in the same pot and many of them are growing well.
But now I have noticed small mealy bugs again in some of the branches and, the worst, underneath the soil attacking the roots. I want to use the plant for medical purposes but I don’t know if taking infusions of the roots, even if I bath them in water with alimentary use bleach and rinse them well, is safe.
Also, I’m concerned because I buried in that pot a pigeon which had died from pigeon pox. I wonder if that has something to do with the mealy bugs infection or are another causes such as heat, high humidity or overwatering. The buried pigeon also concerns me with taking infusions of the root of that plant, even though I buried the body in 2021, if I don’t remember bad, and in the bottom of the pot. I want to ask if it is dangerous to use the plant leaves, branches and roots in infusions to drink.
And how can I get rid of the mealy bugs infestation and prevent future ones?
**Edit:** I live in Spain, in the Mediterranean zone, and here summers are very hot and humid. And my balconry is facing south.
